If you look at the stock cats/downpipes you'll realize that a mandrel bent pipe is FAR superior to gutting. If you don't have the money for downpipes, gutting the precats is acceptable but won't net NEARLY the same gains. Check out Greg Dupree's split-flange downpipes HERE. He also sells mandrel bent testpipes as well. I would keep your stock main cats ungutted in case you ever have to smog the car.
